Thoughts On Thursdays: Gov. Jan Brewer

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer engaged in what some would call a “testy” or categorize as a heated conversation at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport on yesterday.  So with whom would the Governor of Arizona be engaged in such a public display with??  None other than The President of the United States Barack Obama.  The argument stems from a book that Gov. Brewer authored and released in November of last year titled: “Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interest, Liberal Media and Cynical Politicos to Secure America’s Border” in which Gov Brewer describes an Oval Office meeting between The President and herself that was supposed to diffuse some feelings that were beginning to become harsh towards the Governor and the Administration.  The focus of the meeting was on their opposing views of Arizona’s immigration laws in contrast to The Administration’s policies.  But in the Governor’s book, she depicts the meeting and describes the President as being “condescending”, “professorial”, and “lecturing” (claims The President and his Administration vehemently deny).  So Wednesday the President arrives in Phoenix…and was greeted by Governor Brewer…and was presented with a letter supposedly inviting The President back to Phoenix for a meeting.  And this is where the dispute begins.  President Obama and Governor Brewer engage in a heated discussion where you can see Gov. Brewer at one point shaking her finger in the face of The President of the United States!!!  And I’m here to state that no matter your party affiliation or which side of the aisle (Republican, Democrat, Independent) you may be on…He is our President and you are a sitting member of congress..have some respect for our Commander and Chief!!  The world is watching Governor Brewer.  Our Country is already viewed by some as being divided and selfish in the world’s eyes.  Your display on Wednesday only provided fuel to that fire.  You can dislike a person’s political views, you can even dislike the man…But you have to RESPECT THE OFFICE!!!  JUST MY THOUGHTS PEOPLE!!!

What Were They Thinking Wednesdays: Rick Santorum

Republican Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum finished second in the Iowa Caucuses held on yesterday…with one of the most narrow finishes ever…and with his new found momentum going into the New Hampshire Primary I’m going to say…WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??  This has absolutely nothing to do with his finish in the Caucus but it has everything to do with the outlandish comments he has made while on the campaign trail.  Mr. Santorum has made numerous statements about minorities living off of government set-asides and made ridiculous comments (click here for a youtube clip) about welfare and food stamp programs.  So allow me, since Mr. Santorum is running for the Republican Nomination with the ultimate goal of becoming President of the United States, enlighten him some about these programs that he speaks of.  In Iowa, the same state that he uttered these ridiculous comments, 84% of food stamp recipients are white (yes shocker to some…I know) and nationally the average is about 70% of white americans who receive such assistance from these programs.  So this fabrication that minorities are the only ones that are benefiting from these programs is not only factually wrong, it’s plain RIDICULOUS!!!  We as Americans shouldn’t care who is benfitting from such programs, but should be proud  that we live in a country so great that assistance is provided for those in need.  That should be commended and not used as a divider between us.  I’m well aware of the card you’re trying to play here Mr. Santorum!  That baiting may have allowed you to achieve a second place finish in Iowa, and it may have breathed new life into your fledgeling campaign, but if thats the only card that you have to play…then your new found media coverage will be short- lived.  So enjoy your 15 minutes.  Your clock is now ticking.  And without some real ideas to lead this country, your time will be up soon!!  RICK SANTORUM…WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??      

What Were You Thinking: Herman Cain

Good Morning Toughtalkers…….I have one question to ask Herman Cain…WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??  The Former head of The National Restaurant Association and now GOP front-runner for the nomination to represent the Republican Party in the 2012 Presidential election has found himself in a bit of hot water recently when it was reported that there were two sexual harassment claims that were filed against him in the past. These cases were not only filed but settled out of court.  One woman was reportedly paid $34,000 (a year’s salary) in severance pay, and the other female accuser reportedly received 2 to 3 months (not sure which as of yet) in severance pay which concluded in 1992.  Now my question to you Mr. Cain is… didn’t you know what JOB your were applying for??  You’re not running a Pizza Parlor anymore.  You’re campaigning to become The President of The United States of America!!!  Mr. Cain, do you know what comes along with that?  I guess not…so allow me to enlighten you.  This endeavor comes with the most rigorous vetting process in the world!!  Did you think these claims weren’t going to be made public?  I guess he was thinking more about that 999 plan.  Mr. Cain has spoken out recently about these suits and it’s difficult at best to keep up with his explanation, because it changes every time he tells it.  He has gone to great lengths to understate what happened and has even dismissed the allegations made by these women.  Mr. Cain, have we not learned anything from the past political missteps (JUST TELL THE TRUTH).  So now you have an attorney for one of the women, Joel Bennett, petitioning the Restaurant Association to lift the confidentiality agreement so she can speak on exactly what happened with the case and why there was a settlement.  Mr. Cain the water seems to be getting deeper and deeper every time you make a statement.  Whoever is advising you needs to stop concentrating so much on making youtube commercials of you smoking cigarettes and start doing his job…which is supposed to be running your campaign!  Because it’s sinking fast!!  Mr. Herman Cain…WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???!!!
